Ever wondered what goes into crafting the complex, interactive soundscapes that you hear in your favorite video games? Step into the dynamic world of audio for video games in this virtual introductory workshop led by industry expert Elise Baldwin (EA/Maxis, Xbox, Netflix Games). Discover how sound brings games to life as we walk through the different roles, types of teams and range of audio production that exists within gaming – from editing, sound design, music, dialogue and mixing – and the core audio skills needed to work in games.
We will dive into what differentiates audio production for video games from traditional, linear formats like film and television, and take a look at the specific tools, software, and technologies used to shape game audio production today. Whether you’re curious about career paths or ready to begin building the skills necessary to break into the field, this workshop will provide you with the essential knowledge and resources to get started, and the opportunity to learn and ask questions directly from one of the top leaders in game audio.

Women’s Audio Mission courses focus on increasing the gender balance in audio production and technology sectors since less than 5% of the population employed in these sectors are women and gender-diverse individuals. There are limited spots available in our classes, and they often sell out, so we ask that if you are not woman-identified (cisgender or transgender), nonbinary, or gender-expansive, you reconsider enrolling in the class. We will not turn anyone away, but please be mindful that if you take up a seat in the class, that is one less woman, non-binary, or gender-expansive individual that we can serve. We thank you for your understanding in advance and for joining us in our mission to advance women and girls in music production and the recording arts.
