Board Operator, KCRW – Los Angeles, CA

KCRW is looking to increase its fill-in Board Operator roster with experienced and enthusiastic individuals. The Board Operator is responsible for ensuring a seamless listening experience for our audience and supports all on-air talent and producers.

This position reports to the Station Operations Manager, is paid an hourly rate, and is classified as per diem, non-exempt.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate radio board and all studio equipment as required
  • Fulfill station’s FCC obligations, including using dump button to prevent obscenities from airing
  • Perform all EAS responsibilities as required
  • Follow daily program log and ensure correct and timely airing of shows, elements and spots
  • Maintain proper levels, mix, timing and quality of all audio that is broadcast
  • Reliably hit a post seamlessly
  • Perform live VO as required in keeping with station sound
  • Write air copy as needed
  • Prepare syndicated programs for broadcast as directed
  • Engage and broadcast remote connections (Phones, ReportIt, Comrex, etc) as needed
  • Serve as technical director of live programs as needed
  • Complete daily audio production duties as assigned
  • Monitor news sources and follow station’s breaking news procedures as needed
  • Coordinate both preparation and broadcast of live newscasts during air shift
  • Coordinate with production department regarding locally produced recorded programming
  • Coordinate with technical directors of live programs
  • Coordinate with engineering department regarding proper function of station equipment
  • Coordinate with promotions department regarding on-air promotional priorities
  • Perform other tasks as required that are necessary to ensure a successful broadcast

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MAC OS
  • Knowledge of Dalet, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge or audio and broadcast equipment and facilities
  • Knowledge of public radio distribution systems
  • Conversant in both local and global current events and culture
  • Reliable transportation
  • Punctual
  • Minimum 1 year related work experience required

Education:

  • High School or equivalent education required
