Stitcher is hiring a full-time audio engineer to be based in Los Angeles. They will be part of the team responsible for recording, mixing and sound designing Earwolf and Stitcher’s growing roster of podcasts. In addition to ensuring that the highest quality audio is captured and delivered, the Stitcher Engineer collaborates with hosts and producers, helps to maintain a pleasant, organized and efficient studio environment, and ensures that our listeners always enjoy great-sounding audio. They should have a demonstrable passion for comedy and podcasts, and be able to provide the kind of supportive and fun environment that will enable our performers to do their best work.

What you’ll do:

Responsible for the technical process of recording, editing and mixing episodes, including sweetening/repairing audio

Provide sound design, music placement, and the development of new ideas for creative use of sound

Record and deliver advertisements with wide ranging sponsor expectations at proper loudness and timing specifications

Adhere to the high standards of Stitcher & Earwolf’s production and operational workflow

Help to maintain Earwolf & Stitcher’s studios and professionally represent the department to hosts and guests

Be available to offer support to the content team in Pro Tools editing and audio recording best practices

Work with all of Stitcher’s various teams including marketing, advertising operations and partnerships to provide audio expertise when necessary

Meet deadlines consistently and publish flawless final products

Integrate with current Earwolf and Stitcher audio engineers to manage and operate production facilities for all podcast activities including pre and post-production engineering, voice-over and multi-track engineering

Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

Occasional field recording

You should have:

Education & Experience/Certifications:

4+ years experience as an audio engineer required and 2-3 years experience working with podcasts or broadcasts preferred

High level of Pro Tools experience required, as well as familiarity with Waves, iZotope and other industry-standard 3rd party plugins

Extensive experience with audio hardware, including industry standard microphones, mixers, cabling, etc.

Experience in field and home recording is preferred

Experience as a live sound engineer is a bonus

Skills & Abilities:

Significant creative experience in varied techniques of sound design, music arrangement and creative mixing

Familiarity with generally-accepted podcast loudness standards, and ability to deliver episodes at consistent loudness levels according to in-house specifications

Past success in a fast, efficient, highly organized and disciplined group, with proven ability to consistently perform in a high volume, fast turnaround environment

Experience with creative editorial, cutting and arranging content with an ear for comedic and dramatic timing

A demonstrable passion for comedy

Thorough understanding of on-demand audio space, engineering, recording, editing and arranging, signal flow, post production, mixing and mastering for dialog, sound design and music

Proficiency with Mac computers and OSX operating system and cloud storage

Adaptable to a fast paced and evolving industry and workplace
