WAM San Francisco Internship Program
The WAM Internship program is widely recognized in the audio and music production industries for the caliber of training, range of activities, overall experience, as well as job placement opportunities. Past interns have gone on to positions with such companies as Dolby, Pixar, Apple, Sony, Google, and Pandora, as well as most of the premier venues for music and performance in the San Francisco Bay Area.
WAM Internship Program Goals:
- Build confidence, communication skills, and personal versatility to prepare for jobs in the audio industry.
Develop interpersonal connections for industry networking and community support to create career pathways for future employment opportunities.
Gain hands-on studio training to prepare as entry-level engineering assistants or for other audio roles in live or studio work.
Learn how to teach and share audio skills and knowledge to further support the WAM mission.

2026 Summer Internship Period
- Application Opens: February 27th, 2026
- Application Closes: April 12th, 2026
- Internship Dates: June 11th – August 13th, 2026 (Tuesdays & Thursdays, approximately 12-4pm

Is this Internship a fit for you?
The Internship is open to women (transgender or cisgender) and non-binary/gender-expansive individuals, recommended for those 18 years and older. You must be a resident of the Northern California area.
All applicants must ensure that they are available for all the dates and hours required to fulfill the internship duties.
You must be legally authorized to work in the United States and do not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future.
REQUIRED SCHEDULE, TIME COMMITMENT, AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Intern Workshops: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Skills workshops, Professional development, and Industry tours.
- Intern Virtual Activities: Flexible, can be completed on your own schedule.
- Adult Education Classes: Support our adult education programs, one weekly class. We ensure you can support in a way that is manageable for your schedule.
Commitment of a total of 16 hours per week, Monday – Friday (PDT), in person, virtually, and some evenings and weekends when classes, sessions, and events are scheduled.
As an intern, you’ll likely support one Girls on the Mic class series weekly and one Adult class series weekly (or a two-day class on a weekend), spanning the duration of the Internship. They often overlap, and we ensure you can do both in a way that is manageable for your schedule.
REQUIRED SCHEDULE:

- Girls on the Mic (GOTM): Support for school programs
- Adult Education Classes: Support our adult education programs
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage in career development activities and shadowing opportunities with local Bay Area audio industry leaders.
Assist with Girls on the Mic as a teaching assistant.
Support Adult Education classes.
Support Studio sessions and other hands-on training opportunities.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 1 year of audio education or equivalent experience.
Support WAM’s mission to change the face of audio.
Ability to work independently.
Proficiency in operating a standard computer (Mac or PC).
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Mandated Reporter Training and TB Test required.
You must be a resident of the San Fransisco Bay Area at the time of applying.
NOTE ABOUT EMPLOYMENT AND PAY:
This internship provides a stipend of $2,500 upon successful completion of the program, to cover transportation, materials, and other costs. This is not a paid position and does not constitute employment.
