Date: Saturdays, February 7th and 14th

Time: 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM PDT (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM EDT)

Location: Class will be held online via Zoom

Take your music from a spark of inspiration to a confident, professional-sounding mix in this immersive two-part workshop led by acclaimed engineer and producer Gloria Kaba. With over 15 years of experience and credits including Solange’s A Seat at the Table, collaborations with Q-Tip, and work with artists such as Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill, Kelela, and Allison Russell, Gloria brings deep industry insight to every step of the process.

Designed for artists and producers who want to strengthen both their creative process and technical foundation, this class demystifies what it really takes to build a song that holds up – from the earliest idea through a polished, mix-ready track. Across two hands-on sessions, Gloria shares the real-world workflows, critical listening strategies, and production-with-intention techniques she’s developed as a former Technical Director at the legendary Power Station and adjunct professor at Berklee College of Music, empowering participants to move faster, make clearer decisions, and present their music with impact at every stage.

Feb 7 – Producing: from Idea to Demo

In this hands-on session, Gloria Kaba guides producers through the full creative arc of taking a rough idea and developing it into a compelling, mix-ready demo. Participants will learn how to deconstruct reference tracks to understand arrangement, tone, and stylistic identity, and practice critical listening techniques that sharpen decision-making throughout the production process. Gloria will walk through her workflow for moving from initial ideation into structured production, including sound selection, crafting templates that speed up creativity, and building sessions that stay organized from inception through final bounce. By the end of the workshop, artists will understand how to turn raw sparks of inspiration into well-developed demos that are both creatively exciting and technically strong enough for collaboration, pitching, or further refinement.

Feb 14 – Mixing: from Demo to Polished Mix

This workshop focuses on mixing as an extension of creativity – not just a technical afterthought. Gloria Kaba breaks down an accessible approach to mixing that empowers artists who produce their own work to achieve clarity, impact, and professional polish. Attendees will explore how to balance elements to create space, achieve a clean and present vocal, and hit loudness levels that stand up when playing tracks for potential managers, collaborators, or mixers. While deconstructing a mix, Gloria will share practical strategies for producing with the mix in mind and shaping mixes that highlight the artistic vision while communicating effectively to industry partners. Participants will leave with actionable tools to elevate their mixes and present their music with confidence.

Women’s Audio Mission courses focus on increasing the gender balance in audio production and technology sectors since less than 5% of the population employed in these sectors are women and gender-diverse individuals. There are limited spots available in our classes, and they often sell out, so we ask that if you are not woman-identified (cisgender or transgender), nonbinary, or gender-expansive, you reconsider enrolling in the class. We will not turn anyone away, but please be mindful that if you take up a seat in the class, that is one less woman, non-binary, or gender-expansive individual that we can serve. We thank you for your understanding in advance and for joining us in our mission to advance women and girls in music production and the recording arts.
