The University of Southern California Thornton School of Music invites applicants for the full-time position Assistant Professor of Practice, Recording Arts in the Department of Music Technology. The appointment is non-tenure track and begins August 2019.

The new educational model, launching in Fall 2019 for undergraduates in the Classical Performance & Composition Division, renews Thornton’s commitment to a virtuosic education and asks students to reimagine what it means to be a classical musician in the 21st century. The Music Technology department offers a Bachelors of Music in Music Production, as well as, undergraduate and graduate minor fields in audio recording and music production. The department also offers a wide range of recording, desktop music and studio production courses to Thornton majors and non-majors. The department promotes artistic, technical and leadership growth, as well as, development through mentoring and challenging students in their study, performance and production of music in a wide variety of contemporary musical styles.
Duties
Principal duties will include teaching courses at a variety of levels including recording arts, audio fundamentals and techniques, advanced audio, signal processing, mixing and mastering, speaker design, acoustics and digital audio; Mentoring of final projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated professional success in audio engineering for music including tracking, mixing, and mastering as applied to a broad range of musical styles including pop/rock, dance, urban, jazz and classical. Successful applicants will be expected to have a demonstrated record of experience and accomplishment working in a highly diverse environment and of promoting equity and inclusion in the work that they do and in their approach to the profession. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated experience teaching at the college or secondary level
Preferred qualifications: a bachelor’s degree in a related audio field and a minimum of three years teaching at the college or university level in the areas of recording arts and music production.
