WAM @ Arup: Exploring Acoustics
Women’s Audio Mission and Arup Team Up for New Soundlab Unveiling and Panel
(San Francisco, CA – April 16, 2018) – Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) and multinational engineering firm, Arup, are teaming up to present a panel featuring Arup women acoustic professionals and demonstrations in their new, state-of-the-art Soundlab.
The evening will include an introduction to acoustics, an overview of Arup’s fascinating work in the field, and a panel discussion featuring Arup women acoustic professionals, Fiona Gillan, Anne Guthrie, Wendy Lee, and Jolene Stoffle, moderated by WAM Founder and Executive Director Terri Winston. A reception and advanced demonstrations will follow in Arup’s Soundlab, an innovative virtual listening environment that allows listeners to hear the sound of existing spaces all over the world and test the sound of projects in the design phase.
WAM trains over 1,500 women and girls a year in the recording arts to address the critical lack of women in the audio industry (less than 5%). Arup recently provided pro bono acoustic design services for WAM’s second studio opening in May 2018 and has designed many famous cultural institutions around the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Centre Pompidou, and SFMOMA.
