Summary
Primary Audio Engineer responsible for mixing live shows and interpreting the artists’ acoustic “vision” as well as managing all venue audio in accordance with guidelines set forth by the JCCSF Production Manager. Member of Lead Production Team acting as primary point technician for events, as assigned.
Audio Engineer
- Mix live events and functions such as concerts, meetings, conventions, presentations and conferences for the JCCSF in accordance with JCCSF production standards including, but not limited to audio set-up and strike as needed for each event.
- Set-up, operate, and strike equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, recording equipment, mixing boards, and outboard processing gear for events at the center and offsite in the SF Bay Area.
- Monitor audio recording feeds to ensure quality. Coordinate with Broadcast/Recording technicians.
- Confer with Program Manager to establish cues and directions to ensure smoothly run events.
- Deliver all recorded assets to their proper destination/recipient.
- Ensure equipment and associated cables are set up as cleanly and neatly as possible.
- Ensure equipment is installed according to designated layout.
- Additional support to production team may include:
- Set up, operate, and strike video screens, projectors, and other AV.
- Review presentation media content prior to event start, if available.
- Diagnose and correct any media system problems.
- Provide additional support for load in, performance and strike when needed
- Load-in and strike supplemental audio or lighting equipment
- Load-in and strike backline equipment, risers, staging, music stands and chairs
Lead Production Technician
- Lead technical staff person and primary point person for day-of running of shows and events.
- Review production calendar, production schedules and event summaries for accuracy and completeness of event information. Respond with questions.
- Execute technical requirements outlined in the above-mentioned documents and according to JCCSF production standards for safety and excellence.
- Coordinate, communicate, direct and assign work to additional technical staff at events. Drive scheduled call and strike times set by Production Manager.
- Drive show production schedule set forth by Production Manager. If day-of changes are needed to schedule, equipment or staffing:
- Work with program managers to match available resources with show/event needs.
- Communicate all changes to Production Manager and Program Managers. If changes necessitate additional costs for equipment or staffing, approval must be received from Program Manager.
- Supply quotes for additional rental equipment requested and obtain equipment as directed.
- Enforce crew breaks.
- Put out and strike production signs.
- Email a recap of the event to Production Manager.
- Collaborate with Production Manager to successfully integrate outside riders into JCCSF theatre. Work through house infrastructure, inventory, production scheduling details and challenges.
- Schedule and execute regular maintenance on audio equipment and ensure operating optimally.
- Provide training on policies and procedures to overhire staff, as well as ongoing coaching and constructive feedback.
- Communicate technical problems or personnel issues to supervisor or program manager as appropriate.
- Stay up to date on trends and recommend equipment upgrades.
- Responsible for making sure all work meets JCCSF standards of procedure and safety.
- Model behavior based on JCCSF working principles and customer service standards.
- Be committed to the mission and goals of the JCCSF.
Requirements/Qualifications
- 3 -5 years of continuous hands-on experience in professional live audio
- Experience mixing FOH audio for bands, theatrical performances and lectures on both analogue and digital mixing consoles
- Experience with Midas PRO2 a plus.
- Experience mixing monitors from FOH console and from stage
- Full understanding of audio and power distribution and fundamentals.
- Able to create master input lists and coordinate stage plots from technical riders
- Be able to mic a stage and assign monitor mixes as appropriate
- Have thorough understanding of analog and digital signal paths/routing/troubleshooting/gain structure
- Full understanding of mic, line & consumer levels
- In-depth knowledge of microphone types & applications
- Must be proficient in audio for video
- Theatre technician experience a plus
- Capability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in high and small places.
- Valid California driver’s license
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
STATUS: Benefited, non-exempt, collective bargaining unit position. Classification: Professional II
HOURS: 35 hours per week, Evening, weekend and holiday hours are a requirement of this position.
