Summary:
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for the position of Manager of Audio Operations. The Manager of Audio Operations oversees all audio production activities at the Jacobs School of Music. This includes archival recording of student, faculty, guest, and Jacobs School ensembles; sound reinforcement for Jacobs School events; sound design for the IU Opera and Ballet Theater; recording sessions for faculty and Jacobs School ensembles; coordination with external vendors, and audio support for other media-related activities. This is a 12-month, tenure-ineligible, renewable position with an initial appointment of three-years.
At the Jacobs School, most audio production is performed by Audio Engineering students as a requirement for their Bachelor of Science degree. In collaboration with the Audio Engineering Department faculty, The Manager of Audio Operations supervises approximately 60 students in their audio production activities and is responsible for: training students in recording and sound reinforcement procedures, workflows, and facilities use; scheduling of student engineers and audio production facilities; supervision of student Production Assistants; quality assurance of recordings; management of the online calendar of audio production events; administration of the automated system for backup, delivery, and archiving of file-based media created during the department’s day-to-day recording activities; identification and delegation of audio equipment repair needs; assistance with maintenance and upgrades of audio facilities; equipment acquisition recommendations.
Qualifications:
Five or more years’ experience in audio recording and sound reinforcement and a demonstrated record of accomplishment. Ability to read a musical score and experience in recording and producing classical and jazz music. Experience with current digital audio console and audio over IP technology Advanced DAW editing and production proficiency, familiarity with Pro Tools, Wavelab and Adobe Creative Cloud desirable. Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of analog and digital audio equipment. Experience with administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Macintosh and Windows-based computer systems. Experience working in a university environment and experience with teaching and course design is desirable. Master’s degree in audio production required; equivalent professional experience will be given equal consideration.
