Become an Avid Certified User for Pro Tools at WAM

Women’s Audio Mission is proud to be an Avid Learning Partner.

The certification is the Avid Certified User for Pro Tools, providing an industry-recognized credential for both academic users and industry professionals.

 

To become an Avid Certified User for Pro Tools at Women’s Audio Mission, you must take the two WAM Academy courses, Pro Tools Fundamentals (PT101) and Pro Tools Fundamentals (PT110), before sitting and passing the associated certification exam, as shown in the graphic below.

Becoming an Avid Certified User for Pro Tools at WAM verifies that you possess a fundamental understanding of and the capability to use Avid Pro Tools to engineer a project through to completion, with all of the fundamental operational skills to record, edit, mix and output the finished session.

Here is the breakdown of each Pro Tools Fundamentals course.

 

Pro Tools Fundamentals PT101: Introduces fundamental Pro Tools concepts and principles, covering everything an individual needs to know to complete a basic Pro Tools project, from initial setup to final mixdown.

NOTE: This class is included in our Academy Level 1 Course. 


 

Pro Tools Fundamentals PT110: Expands upon the Pro Tools Fundamentals PT101 course and includes using MIDI, virtual instruments, and additional recording and mixing tools.

Thursday–Friday: 3/16–17

Time: 10am–6pm PT

Location: WAMO facility, located at 1900 Fruitvale Ave, Unit 3A, 3rd floor, Oakland.

FAQ

To certify, you must complete each course, including course projects/exercises, at an official Avid Learning Partner (WAM), then pass each course completion exam.

Alternatively, the courses are also taught in academic environments over several months or years to students who are learning the concepts at the same time as the fundamental operational skills to record, edit, mix, and output a finished session. Pick the format that is right for you.

  • Per Avid policy, ebooks will be distributed before the first class.
  • Avid Pro Tools® 101 and 110 ebooks are included in the 100 level rate.
  • Both the 101 and 110 exams must be passed with an 80% or above for student to receive their User Certification (Avid Policy).
  • Attendance will be taken since, per Avid policy, students need to take all lecture hours to qualify for the certification exams.
  • If a student misses a day, he or she will not be able to take the Certification exam. Student may re-enroll when the course comes around again, but must start at the beginning and pay full rate.

Can I refer to the study materials during the exam?

No. Students are not allowed to reference any documentation or study materials during the exam.

What is the format of the exam?

The exam is comprised of 50 questions with 60 minutes allotted to complete.

Test items are presented in the following formats:

  • Multiple Choice: Select the single option that best answers the question
  • Illustration Review: Refer to the illustration prior to answering the multiple choice question
  • Illustration Response: Select the single image that best answers the question

What happens if I take the exam and do not pass?

Exam results are shown immediately when an exam is completed and submitted for evaluation. Unless a candidate is banned from retaking the exams for reasons of fraud or rule violations, the following retake policy applies:

  • If a student does not pass an exam, the candidate may retake the exam after 24 hours have passed
  • Once a student has passed an exam, it may not be taken again for that version of the Avid product
  • Each student gets one exam for free. Additional retakes are chargeable “add to student”.

What will I receive if I successfully pass the exam?

Along with pride and confidence of becoming an Avid Certified User for Pro Tools you will receive:

  • Official certificate available for printing or download, proving your Avid Certified User status
  • Downloadable Logos, for use in your resume, business marketing materials such as business cards and websites
  • (Optional with your express consent) Listing of your credentials on Avid.com under Find a Certified Professional

How long is certification good for?

Your Pro Tools certification does not expire.
